Applications for Artists: How to Apply to Artist Residencies and Fellowships
is BACK and NOW ENROLLING for June 2025
My 2x sold out workshop series, Applications for Artists: How to Apply to Artist Residencies and Fellowships is back and now enrolling for Summer 2025!
This workshop series will support you in developing clear and compelling language about your creative practice in order to receive resources, space and time to create away from your day-to-day life and responsibilities, funding, and other tools/knowledge/opportunities so you can move closer to making the idea or image in your head exist in the world on the other side of hitting “submit.”
This time around I’m offering two, five-week, live taught sessions in June on Wednesday nights and late Thursday mornings, EST to better accommodate folks in various timezones (this is a global offering y’all, wow) and to ensure more people are able to take the course. Another change from last year? Each session will be capped at 30 students this summer instead of 12 (that means there are a total of 60 spots available).
Both of these changes are designed to increase accessibility—to allow more folks to enroll and get what they need while still keeping the sessions small-ish and intimate and again, so that the timing of the sessions can be more convenient for a global community.
Together in class over 5 sessions we will:
Walk through the process of applying to artist residencies and fellowships
Find residencies and fellowships for you to apply for
Write your artist bio
Create your artist resume
Write your project statement
Review what your portfolio + artist website should include
Develop a system for tracking opportunities you’re interested in, are working on applications for, or have submitted to
Review the most common ways artist applications are submitted
Hit submit together
I hope you’ll join me and your fellow students for class this summer. I know Colleen Hagerty, a writer and journalist who took the course last summer is glad she did. She had this to say about why she took the course and what she gained from doing so,
"I signed up for the Artist Residency Workshop to improve my applications and online profile, but it also ended up giving me an invaluable confidence boost. Gabrielle creates a space that feels safe and encouraging for constructive criticism, while also providing tangible tools and next steps to further your in-class work. I am so grateful for her guidance, which I believe helped me get selected for a fellowship program I applied to during the session. I highly recommend taking the course!"
Here's the thing, the methods I teach WORK (and for people other than me). Folks who have taken the workshop and applied what they learned have been accepted to artist residencies and MFA programs, gotten agents and fellowships, and grown in their self-trust, self-confidence, and understanding of their work.
Here’s what Olivia and Damola had to say:
“This workshop didn't just directly contribute to my acceptance at a comedy writing residency, it completely changed how I see myself as an artist. I took my practice seriously for maybe the first time ever. I even reframed my website with my updated bio (and moved client work to an afterthought). Plus, I was accepted into a residency I would have never had the resources or confidence to apply for before this!!! Gabrielle is an incredible facilitator. She has both the organizational tools and the means to bring folks together for accountability and collective empowerment.”
Olivia Crandall
Writer and October 2023 workshop participant
“Gabrielle is an intentional and insightful educator. Her ability to make what would traditionally be a daunting process more simple and easy to tackle is a godsend. I recommend her program to every creative I know regardless of industry.”
Damola Akintunde
Photographer, DJ, Incoming Duke MFA student and May 2024 workshop participant
The course still costs $150 (same as last year, no price hike here!) and you can pay at once or across two installments of $75. Sliding scale payments are not available, but I do hope that the option of a payment plan is supportive. The enrollment deadline is June 3rd or whenever each session hits 30 students.
If you have any questions ask them in the comments, my DMs, or over email and I’ll be happy to answer them! You can find more information + enroll here:
I hope to see you on Zoom this summer!
Thanks for being here and more soon,
Gabrielle
P.S. My Obsidian/Systems for Cultural Workers workshop will be open for enrollment in the coming weeks. I’ll have more details for you on that offering soon.
this is incredible! will need to pray on it to see if the timing is right, but thank you for providing this opportunity for artists and creatives especially at a reasonable price 🫶🏾🙇🏾
